Not an Ordinary Vacation!
Not an Ordinary Vacation Last week, local businessman and Realtor Adam Link took a very special trip. Not an ordinary trip, but a trip with purpose to help the residences in Biloxi Mississippi from the raft of storm Katrina. Adam, along with the Lutheran Disaster Response Team and the Community Lutheran Partners of West Virginia wanted to make certain families have a Merry Christmas and got to witness first hand one of Gods many miracles. What a thrill it was to be a part of something so worthwhile, says Adam link, just seeing the faces of each person we helped, light up with amazement that people would come so far to help a stranger. I will never forget this as long as I live. The hope that this team of volunteers passed along to others is priceless and really put a new meaning into The Spirit of Christmas. The hopelessness and despair in everyone faces began to melt away, with each hammer we swung and every nail we forged into the many desperately needed repairs and renovations of the homes of these families in need. It felt like we were helping to repair their spirits as well as their homes, remarked Adam. Adams wife, Diane along with Sara Soltow the executive directory of Community Lutheran Partners, were also very busy making this Christmas a particularly memorable one for over 200 families. We were able to bless these families with over $18,000 in gift certificates and a variety of toys, says Diane. The families were teary eyed and full of smiles and joy, as they received various donated gift certificates and gifts to make this a truly great Christmas after so many disappointments and hardships throughout the last 14 months of the Katrina aftermath. Adam has a New Years Resolution he would like to share with the community of Jefferson and Berkeley Counties of West Virginia. I am going to donate $100 for every home I sell in these counties. I intend to let our local families make a difference in the lives of hundreds if not thousands of less fortunate. Adam is looking forward to helping more families in these very difficult times. It reminded me that Mother nature can strike anywhere and destroy land, crops and in extreme cases, take lives, says Adam, but the vision our ministry has is that we will continue to band together to support one another in times of great difficulty and catastrophes that are beyond our control and can strike any one of us at any time. I love knowing that the money you will be donating to many needy families via the properties you will partner with me in selling, will give renewed hope and encouragement to those in despair. I urge my community together, to help me, in helping others who really need a leg up through yours and my belief and kindness in God and Church.
